Jacob Argubright (Argubrite)

He volunteered in the militia for six months in May 1778 under Capt. Cravens who raised a company to march against the Indians. They went to Vestfall Fort in Tiger's Valley and he was stationed there and at Fort Hettan except for two or three days when called out to reconniter the country. At the end of his term he again volunteered for three months and then came home for about two weeks. He then marched to Fort Pitt and to Tuscarora [sic] River where they built Fort Laurence [sic]. The troops were commanded by Maj. Nall, Col. Crawford, Gen. McIntosh and Col. Gibson. He knew Lieut. Parks who was killed by the Indians between Fort McIntosh and Fort Lawrence [sic]. Col. Crawford, on account of his murder, wished to kill nine or ten Indians who had come to sue for peace, but was prevailed upon by the other officers not to do so. The company returned home in Feb. 1779.
