5th Annual Moccasin Roast

5th Annual Moccasin Roast
Saturday, October 14th, 2000

BOLIVAR, OH– The Friends of Fort Laurens Foundation's 5th Annual Moccasin Roast Fund-Raising Dinner is scheduled for Saturday, October 14, 2000 from 5:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Fort Laurens State Memorial in Bolivar.

The long awaited detachment of food staples and other necessary material have finally arrived at Fort Laurens from back east. Moccasin Roast 2000 will feature the finest tastes and delicacies of the 18th century. Please join us as we dine on wild game pie or stew, featuring the finest venison and other indigenous game selections, as well as considerations of harvest vegetables, potatoes, fritters, Moccasin Roast beef broth soup and a special dessert.

Previous guest speakers at the Foundation's Moccasin Roast included family descendants of the notorious American renegade Simon Girty, Ohio Supreme Court Justice Thomas Moyer, and Dr. R. Michael Gramly, the chief archaeologist of the Fort Laurens digs in the 1970s and 1980s.

This year's featured guest is the Executive Director of the Center for Historic and Military Archaeology at Heidelberg College, Dr. G. Michael Pratt. Dr. Pratt has recently conducted a series of archaeological site investigations at Fort Laurens, particularly the area where the Foundation has proposed Fort Laurens be rebuilt. He will share with us what exactly he and his team found in the Fort Laurens soil and what they didn't find. It should be a most interesting evening.

Although the festivities will be held under a large tent on the Fort Laurens grounds, guests are encouraged to dress casually, but bring along a sweater in case the autumn chill attempts to strike. A warm campfire will do double duty of heating up a kettle of boiling moccasins and providing the means to counter an October evening's temperature.

Seating will be limited so make you reservations now. Tickets are $25 per person, $8 for children under 16 years of age and children under the age of 6 are free. A complimentary gift will be provided to all and fine cigars will be made available at the Tavern Tent immediately following the program.
